Ride Around Our Hayfield

5/29, 6/5

For several Sundays, one of the students from the horseshoeing school has been coming over to ride Logan. He sometimes brings others with him. We've been ending the riding time with a "trail ride" around the hayfield and down the access road to John's gate, and back to the horses' pasture. It takes about 45 minutes. I've taken Ella on both rides.

I haven't taken my camera on either of these rides, but the first week I noticed that the wild roses had begun to bloom and that we had a big patch of Indian blanket. I walked back the next night to take pictures. The second ride I noticed a plant with an unusual and unfamiliar blue flower in the hayfield. I thought it might be passion flower. The next evening I trekked out there and found the plant again, and took photos with my phone. It turned out to be wild bergamot.

6/12 - Devon came with Erin, who came the week before as well. She rode July bareback (he had a sore on his belly from flies and she didn't want to put a cinch on him), Devon rode Logan, I rode Dakota. This was the first time I've ridden Dakota "cross country", ie no trail. He wasn't real pleased. As soon as we turned around to go back, he and July doubled their speed, and it was a quicker ride than usual. LOL

Last in each class. Oh well. I thought we did better than the first show; Dakota is learning to slow down his trot. He minds extremely well. We are still working on backing up though.

Equi-Spirit Club Ride

11/6/10

Riders: Pam, Destiny, Hannah, Andreya, and me. I rode Ella.

Hannah's mom Karen, Andreya's mom Vicki, and Destiny's dad Nathanuel stayed at the trailhead while the rest of us rode. We went over the bridge - Destiny's horse Cinch went right over without even thinking about it - he hates bridges. Next over the step-pyramid, across the now-dry-creekbed, and turned around at the teeter-totter. Pam, Hannah and Andreya took their horses over the teeter-totter, but even hearing the noise freaked Ella out, and Cinch thought it looked too much like a bridge.

On the way back we took a few of the "blue" trails that loop around and always return to the main "pink" trail. On one of these, we found a neat arbor that the trail goes through. We'll have to explore more of these to see what we can find.

After the ride we ate our picnic lunches at the pavilion. The weather was a bit chilly and quite windy, but it was a nice day.
